Question:

Hybrid Cars Research, Need Data?

Hello,

I am a student at California University of PA. I am currently doing a graduate level paper on the correlation between air quality versus the increasing number of hybrid cars in the city. I have chosen to start my project on Los Angles. I have the air quality data I need but I am lacking information on the number of hybrid cars. I am hoping to go back as far as 1997 with this data but anything would help. Can anyone help me go in the right direction on where i can obtain this data.

Thanks

  1. Getting figures for one particular city would be difficult.

Here is how I would go about it

    1. Contact the department of registration. The chances are they record at least model names. There should be a record of low emission vehicles as well.

2 Contact the Honda and Toyota dealerships. They should have sales records fro the area.

The largest proportion would be either Civic or Prius so if all else fails you could at least develop trends using data from these two vehicles.

Hybrids represent only a small section of the market, so it will be difficult to correlate any direct effects. I would assume that increased fuel prices would correlate to increased hybrid sales, decreased vehicle usage and increased air quality.(outside of the effects of wind)
