  1. Roger Federer uses Natural Gut in the mains and luxilon alu power in the crosses. Must be good if he uses it? Me and my friends use synthetic gut and kevlar because it's good and fairly cheap and tends to last a while.

  2. hi. some stringers say to use Nylon strings as mains and natural/synthetic Gut strings as crosses. this combination allows more durable mains and more lively crosses.

you might also find more info on the website below.

    hope this helps :)

  3. Here's the scoop:  You want a durable string for the mains, as they are the ones to break.  These would include nylon and kevlar strings.  These are fairly hard strings, and don't give much feel.  For a little extra feel, maybe go to a 15 gauge synthetic gut (will be a little less durable than nylon/kevlar).

The crosses will be your "feel" string.  Choose a softer string, maybe even a 17 gauge string.

Just go to tenniswarehouse.com and go to the string finder.  Any of the strings categorized as "durability strings" will work for mains.  Click Maximum Playability to see good feel strings for the crosses.

Any combination will do.  Just experiment around with it.  I've never tried it, but I've been curious about mixing prince syn. gut with duraflex with lightning XX string.  It would not be an extremely durable combination, but would have more feel than all syn gut with duraflex and more durability than all lightning XX.

If you're just starting off with hybrids, you might want to check out the pre-packaged hybrids they have.  That can give you a good starting point for making your own.

  4. Hybrid stringing is the like new thing in tennis.  Everyone, including the top pros are trying it.  Go to tennis-warehouse.com.  There is an article about hybrid stringing.  Basically, it's when you string the crosses and the mains with different strings.  For example, Andy Roddick uses the Babolat Pure Drive Roddick Plus racquet.  He strings it with the Babolat Pro Hurricane Tour in the mains, and the Babaolat VS Gut in the crosses.  But really, hybrid stringing depends on what you prefer, and how the strings suit your game, like Rafael Nadal uses the Pro Hurricane Tour for the whole stringbed, while others, like Roodick use hybrids.  Maybe you could demo a racquet with hybrid stringing and see how it goes for you.  Later...
