From my understanding, a huge amount of a vehicle's emissions (something like 85%) is produced in the first 30 seconds of the engine start. I believe it has something to do with the raw fuel pushed through before ignition catches and the fact that the catylitic converter doesn't work well until warmed up. I don't own a hybrid (yet) so I don't know how many engine stops and starts would be typical while driving to the local supermarket. Is anyone aware of any studies on the emissions generated by the many engine starts that a hybrid goes through during in-town driving? Thanks for any info
