lingo tell Roland that hybrids are much cheaper to run....but the diesel engines can get 200,000 and up in mileage before they need work....so witch is better depends on what use u put them to.

Diesels are more reliable the battery on a hybrid is only good for about 5 years and is expensive to replace. A good diesel will out last a gas engine and is far more energy efficient. The cost per mile over the life of the vehicle would be lower on a diesel.

The down sides of a diesel are it smells bad and is noisy. If you can live with that I would buy a diesel. Also if oil keeps going up you can switch a diesel to vegetable oil. I have herd of people using used oil from a fast food place or a donut shop in their diesels. That's free fuel!
