An unbeaten half-ton from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Syed-Mohammad-Shoaib-Ahmed-c92327 propelled the Rawalpindi Rams to a solid total which the Hyderabad Hawks were eventually unable to chase, with the Rams going on to secure a 19-run win in their Group B match during the Faysal Bank T-20 Cup, played
on December 5 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
Having won the toss and chosen to bat first, the Rams suffered an early scare with the loss of two quick wickets – openers Awais Zia (4) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Naved-Malik-c78901 (3) were sent packing in the second over by Lal Kumar (4-0-39-2). The next duo up to bat, Babar Naeem
(14) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mir-Ali-c76344.
By this point, the team was at 63 for 4, but an unbeaten half-century from Shoaib Ahmed (50*) revived the innings in a big way. He was joined by skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sohail-Tanvir-c90665 (43) for a 75-run stand for the 5th wicket, and their combined efforts got the
team past the 100-run mark, after which Sohail Tanvir found himself run out by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lal-Kumar-c72135 in the 17th over.
However, Shoaib Ahmed guided the team through, and his 26-run partnership with Hammad Azam (15), followed by an unbeaten 13-run stand with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jamal-Anwar-c65380 (1*), once Hammad Azam was dismissed lbw by Rehan Riaz, got the team up to a total of 177 by the end of
20 overs.
Having failed to make much of an impression with the bat, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Babar-Naeem-c47131, and Sohail Tanvir, all of whom picked up one wicket each.
The Hawks’ top order came out fighting but as the wickets began to fall, their aggression waned, and the team was eventually unable to execute a successful chase. Openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sharjeel-Khan-c89775 (17) teamed up to post a combined total of 38
runs on the board, and after both batsmen were dismissed by Awais Zia, the team was at 43 for 2.
Player of the Match Aqeel Anjum (75*) made a valiant effort to put his team on steady ground, but his 46-run partnership with skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rizwan-Ahmed-c85475 (22) was the only steady stand for a good part of the innings. After the skipper’s dismissal at the hands of
Babar Naeem, Mir Ali (1), Lal Kumar (1), and Shahzad Haider (7) gave their wickets away without putting up much of a fight.
