Hyderabad to host third Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 – Cricket News Update
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Friday stripped off Kanpur’s Green Park of its scheduled Test match between India and Australia due to the ongoing construction activity at the venue.
Kanpur was due to host the third Test of the four-match Border-Gavaskar series between India and Australia in March next year. But the ongoing renovation process at the ground – which is unlikely to be finished by March 14, the match’s
scheduled start date – prompted the board to shift it to the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
“The change was necessitated because the ongoing construction activity at the Green Park, Kanpur, would not have been completed in time for the Test,” said the BCCI in a press release. “This change is as per the rotation policy of the
Board.”
AS per the BCCI’s initial announcement, Green Park was to host the third Test against the mighty Aussies, from March 14-18. But earlier this month, Cricket Australia expressed dissatisfaction over the facilities in Kanpur after a visit
to ground on December 12.
"The dressing room is not suitable to accommodate a modern-day entourage of a cricket team. Besides, they were not impressed with the facilities at the only five-star hotel in the town," a source had told ESPNcricinfo.
Hyderabad was picked as per the BCCI’s rotation policy. This will be the second Test to be played in Hyderabad in 2012-13 season. The Rajiv Gandhi venue earlier hosted a Test match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 in August this year.
Green Park, the only Test centre in India not owned by any state cricket association, has not hosted a Test over the last three years. The last of the five Test matches played here was between the hosts http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in November
2009. It has been a happy hunting ground for the Men in Blue, with the hosts winning four of the five Tests played here since 1996, while the remaining one fixture ended in a draw.
The 2012-13 Border-Gavaskar series between India and Australia gets underway in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 on February 22. The second match will be played at Mohali from March 2-6, while the fourth and final fixture of the series will be hosted by Chennai
(March 22-26).
Tests schedule
1st Test, Delhi - February 22-26
2nd Test, Mohali - March 2-6
3rd Test, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hyderabad-c792 - March 14-18
4th Test, Chennai - March 22-26
