For a field sobriety test we have one subject on hydrocodone and alcohol (about .4%). Should you be able to tell if they are under the influence?

  1. Both alcohol and codeine effect different people differently.  From personal experience, codeine has little effect on me other than to make me feel pretty happy.  It nauseates some people terribly and they often give anti-nausea along with codeine.  Alcohol is the same way.  To mixed them is medically warned against.  They are dangerous to take together.  They have a synergestic effect; that is, together the effect is stronger than the effect is on each one if taken alone.  As far as telling if someone is under the influence, some people may act loaded and some may not.  Given a drug test, codeine it will certainly show up for a day or two.  An alcohol test needs to be administered while it is still in the system (the body metabolizes about .02% per hour) so it leaves the system quickly and is hard to test for unless the person is drunk.  Hope that answers your question.

  2. Yes, but do not mix opiates and alcohol, even under supervision.
