  1. Maybe someday. A lot of people are working on it.

  2. um yeah pretty much.

    hydrogen fuel cells

  3. Very possible and the absolute best alternative to our current petrochemical dependence.

Please check out the links below.

  4. The on-ramp to the Hydrogen Highway is under construction and it is a long term project. The cost of separating H2 from all of the other elements it loves to attach to is costly. And then there is the jingle that says that the only thing coming out of the tailpipe is water. If you start with water and emit water you are getting power from nothing like it is perpetual motion machine. What did your high school science teacher tell you about perpetual motion machines? Right, they can not exist.

Using hydrogen as a fuel, instead of as food for a fuel cell, is not cheap nor is it green. Most industrial hydrogen comes from natural gas and the part of NG that is left over is carbon dioxide, the green house gas we are trying to avoid.

Someday the cost of isolating hydrogen may come down but not for a while and until it does the economy of driving on the hydrogen tollway is not cheap.

  5. Yes you can even convert your car to run on hydrogen today. You do not even need a $100,000 fuel cell.

Contact The Hydrogen Car Company at 5700 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, California.

  6. I don't believe so, and then I do.

Water in it's natural state is in balance.

(Think of it as a ball hanging at the end of a string like a pendulum)

When you split it into hydrogen and oxygen, you need to input energy into the water to split the strong covalent bonds. (Pulling the ball up to a certain height).

This energy can be used to run a car or whatever, but the energy  that is produced will only be enough to run the car and not to produce more Hydrogen and oxygen.

(When you let go of the ball it will never rise to the same height due to losses and if you use the ball to push something at the bottom, it will not rise back up at all)

Unless you use solar or some other renewable source of energy to split the hydrogen and oxygen, then all you're doing is transporting the pollution from cars to fossil fueled power stations.  That's why i don't agree with Pure electric vehicles.  Hybrids are good because they make use of wasted energy, like when you apply the brakes, and use it to help you accelerate.

    Hope it helps.

  7. It's not hype it's possible, and has and is being investigated  by all major automobile manufacturers.

The problem with Hydrogen cars is efficientley generating the hydrogen. You still need a lot of energy to make it.

  8. the answers above are correct, but there is another problem.  you can't by hydrogen on every street corner.  it will take some time to put the distribution system in place.
