Question:

Hydrogen Generator for passenger vehicles?

There was a local story about a device that when installed in a car, it increased that cars fuel usage by up to 8-10 mpg. It looks to be about the size of a blinder. You add water, hydrogen is made through hydrolysis. You have to add a "catalis" to the mix. Yoou add a hose to the intake of your air filter. Has anyone seen or heard of this device. You can see the vid at :

  1. First you don't need to post the same question three times, second it's a con and I can prove it. Post an edit and I'll show you why it won't work.

  2. I installed a Hydro Super 2 in my Astro Van. It has given me about two more MPG. Don't expect it to power your vehicle by itself. And don't expect a huge increase.

These systems work only as a catalyst to gasoline. The gas fumes will burn hotter, thereby making the gasoline more efficient. Basically, you won't have to push your foot so far to the floor.

These systems only work for people that set the cruise and drive respectfully. When you are accelerating, or the vehicle is under a load, it (vehicle) defaults back to the manufactures settings and you consume more gas.

There are a lot of nay-sayers on this topic. They quote all kinds of things like physic laws or thermodynamics. This topic is still too new to get a definite yes or no. All you can do it try it for yourself. Maybe it will work on your car, maybe it won't.

If you do come across someone that says it is impossible, I would take that with a grain of salt unless they have used one in their car or truck.

  3. Don't be suckered.  You can't make enough hydrogen on board the vehicle to make any difference.  I have seen stationary reactors that can produce hydrogen in significant quantities but pretty much every "run your car on water" type kit is a scam.

    I have two credentials:

    1) I am a degreed mechanical engineer with 10 years of experience in heavy truck design.

    2) I have been researching internet marketing and those companies selling those kits give 50% or greater commission to the "affiliate" that brings the buyer/sucker.

  4. if these really worked, Bill Gates or Warren Buffet or someone of that ilk would be producing them by the millions and they'd be on every Sears, Wal Mart and Napa Auto store shelves, not some fly by night PO box somewhere....

  5. They're bogus.  You can, however, add a water-injection unit to perhaps improve racing performance.  These were popular years ago.

But as for water-dissociation schemes, they're lying, and TV news directors don't care as long as people watch.  No catalyst will reduce the energy necessary to break the H-O bond in water, and thus you always use more energy to separate hydrogen and oxygen than you get back by burning them back into water.  The reason is that the water is heated up by the electric current, and so you've lost that energy.

The solution?  Take the bus.  Sorry.
