Question:

Hydrogen assist gas vehicles?

I am considering putting on a hydrogen assist kit on my vehicle. Is there a chance for the motor to have negative affects from this (such as burnt valves, holes in pistons, corrosion, etc)?

  1. Simply speaking, hydrogen can be thought of as a battery because it is just stored energy. It takes energy to produce hydrogen. Where will this primary source of energy come from ? Currently, industrial hydrogen is produced by splitting the massive amounts of hydrogen from natural gas. In essence the cost is: Price of Natural Gas + Energy required to split hydrogen. Water is a poor source because the molecule actually has only 2, tightly bound hydrogen atoms. Tightly bound meaning it takes far more energy to split than other sources - like natural gas.

Don't buy into the home brew, do it yourself 6th grade hydrogen experiments. They are fun, but inefficient and dangerous.

  2. If you mean one of those devices that uses electricity from the cars alternator to produce hydrogen from water via electrolysis, save your money.  They will not improve your cars gasoline mileage or reduce its emissions.  In fact, they will decrease the mileage and increase emissions.  They are a scam.  Stay away.

  3. I see Agua-Luna.com -I LIVE OFF GRID- is back again with his spam. Sigh.

The one’s that take power from your battery don’t and can’t work, you lose more energy then you get back.

If you do it chemically, and you have aluminum heads, aluminum pistons, intake manifold, air mass sensor, basically anything aluminum then you will have corrosion. That’s because not only do you get hydrogen, but also a fine mist of water and lye, which will destroy aluminum.

But don’t let me stop you go ahead and give it a try and when you need a few thousand dollars in repairs don’t say you weren’t warned.

If the devices that are being push worked, why don’t you see them on new cars now? Think about it, the auto manufactures have to not only meet CAFÉ numbers, but also the California Air Resources Board (CARB) numbers. Even if the US car companies sold out to big oil, why don’t you see them in India, Japan, China, ETC. Or do you really believe that big oil forced every country in the world to sell out to them?
