im in grade 11, and in grade 12, i want to own a car. but with all these gas prices, i was wondering about those fuel efficient and inexpesive feul cars-or-what-you-call-it. i dont know alot about them. what kind of "gas" do they use? hydrogen? water? how do they make it into fuel?

andWHERE do u get them fueled? a hydrogen gas station? and how expensive is it? a new one? buying a used one? AND how much would be the fuel for it?

  1. The fuel in a H car is Hydrogen gas. This is burned with oxygen from the atmosphere, the end product being H2O, water.

Hydrogen does not occur naturally in useful quantities. To make it water is subject to electrolysisis to make Hydrogen gas and Oxygen gas. The electrolysisis process requires lots of electricity, which has to be generated from another source. The greenhouse gases from that source may exceed those released by a gasoline powered car.

The car is not therefore H powered, but powered by whatever is the source of the electricity (wind,solar... not likely, nuclear or coal is most probable)

The fuel is expensive because the storage and transport of H gas is difficult and nobody is willing to invest in large scale infrastructure for a very doubtful technology..

  2. My family all has cars that run on natural gas (methane). They are all used cars, so they weren't expensive to buy at all. It's $10 to fill up here in Utah, and they run very clean. We love 'em! My 16 year-old son drives one. One of his friends just got a Prius and was bragging that it hardly used any gas. My son said, "Yeah? My car uses NO gasoline at all"! Check out my source below and see if one would work for you. Good luck!

  3. Honda has already said that their hydrogen car cost about $500,000 to make-- the ones that will be leased for $600 a month as a test. They also said that they hoped in about 10 years they could get the cost down to (only) $90,000 !!

Fuel cell cars are a LONG way from being practical to own.

  4. you can't buy the Honda H2 fuel cell car, just lease for $600/month.  To fuel it you either go to the Honda dealership or rent an H2 generator from Honda, no word on that cost yet.  The H2 generator will be hooked up to your natural gas system which will convert Ng to H2.  It'll need power to run the compressors and coolers.

If your natural gas cost $1.8 per therm, the equivalent cost will be 5 times the price, so that's $9.0 gallon.  The good news is that the H2 will be 2.5 times as efficient, so that works out to $3.80 per gallon, or the same exact cost per mile as a regular gasoline car.

H2 is not a fuel, its a battery.

  5. A car that runs on hydrogen get its power from a fuel cell. Hydrogen gas is mixed with outside oxygen producing electricity heat and water vapor, instead of CO2. The electricity can then be used to power an electric motor. The important thing to remember though is that hydrogen is not a traditional fuel source. This is because hydrogen does not exist naturally in nature since it is extremely reactive. 96% of today's hydrogen comes from coal, but it can also be produced in a home my passing electricity through water and collecting the gas on the negative electrode, the positive will be oxygen. So in essence hydrogen is just a very high capacity battery. You have to put energy in, in order to get energy out. I hope this helps, if you have any more questions about it email me at creinhardt@ymail.com.

  6. If you could buy one, the cost would be between $100,000 to $150,000 maybe in 2 years.

you can lease one, if you are approved, and live in L.A. for $600 a month.

and the lowest price on Hydrogen is $2.57 a gallon.

So if you are looking to save money, you might try thinking again.

  7. Buy something like a toyota corolla that gets about 35 miles per gallon, is cheap to buy and reliable.  Stay away from the stuff that hasn't been tried and true.  When you become a multi millionaire then you can do the energy fashion statement.  You will become a multi-millionaire a whole lot faster by taking my advice.
