  1. steam powered doesn't necessarily mean burning coal or other fuels, it could mean using  heat exchanger which works similar to the way an air conditioner works.

heat exchanger is a device built for efficient heat transfer from one medium to another, whether the media are separated by a solid wall so that they never mix, or the media are in direct contact.[1] They are widely used in space heating, refrigeration, air conditioning, power plants, chemical plants, petrochemical plants, petroleum refineries, and natural gas processing. One common example of a heat exchanger is the radiator in a car, in which a hot engine-cooling fluid, like antifreeze, transfers heat to air flowing through the radiator.

this could create steam which could go through a turbine powering the vehicle

  2. The people with a stake in the development of such cars are, realistically, part of the 5%--10% margin of the population with a vested interest in the world's remaining dregs of oil and other fossil fuels.

  3. steam pwered stuff still needs fossil fuels and would probably be less efficient than a car

  4. Yea like the Sterling engine .

  5. Look up the Doble steam car. He had worked out most of the design flaws in steam powered cars. Start up time less than a minute about 30 mpg with a 5,000 pound car and it meets most of the emission standards of today.

Of course we would use electronics where he used mechanical sensors.

Every 10 years or so someone tries to make a go of steam, but people don’t trust it and the market is very small and will remain small until someone show that steam is much better than the internal combustion engine.
