Is it Possible to a run a Plant on Hydrogen to Produce Hydrogen and can Hydrogen if Produced cheaply enough run say a Power station that will heat and power all our homes, I know cars can run on a Hydrogen cell which is environmentally clean so why not power stations....and if this was possible would there be enough raw material on the planet to produce a hydrogen based clean energy source for the next several hundred years...our only use for Oil after that would be as a Lubricant....are we going to be saved by a Hydrogen revolution or are we already doomed to follow the Dodo to extinction by the year 2050???

  1. You can use Hydrogen to make Hydrogen, it depends on the process used to create the energy.  A fusion reactor would produce more energy from Tritium (a Hydrogen isotope) fusion than would be required to electrolyse water into H2 + O.

I wouldn't bother using the H2 produced to fuel a power station.  It is more effective as a portable fuel for transportation.

Carbon-60 (Fullerine) molecules are also a better lubricant than oil.  But it takes an immense amount of energy to create them.

  2. hydrogen is impractical because the amount of electricity needed to split hydrogen from oxygen in water is the same amount of electricity you will get back when hyrdogen comes back together with oxygen in a fuel cell.  Im not sure why you are attacking your answerers, they are correct.

The only other way is if they find another source of hydrogen other than water, that uses less electricity to produce.  It would make more sense to find a microorganism to produce it for us.  We would just need to find the species and select the most efficient ones for the job so that we use very little electricity in the process.

  3. No, you cannot produce hydrogen from hydrogen and have a net gain. It violates the laws of thermodynamics.

  4. It's simple to make hydrogen. The hard part is makeing large quantities and storage

  5. yes and thats a good point

  6. Hydrogen is the most explosive gas there is . Be careful as it can kill. If there is any Oxygen in your container where u put your Hydrogen ,it will flash back to the tank and the results will not be pretty.

  7. Is our school systems this bad that people keep asking this type of question? ....................... NO ....................... It's a mathematical loss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

As said before,  Fuel Cells act like a battery.

Fuels Cells are complicated and don't work well when they get dirty.

That means the fuel must be clean.

This will add to the price of the fuel that is already to expensive to make.

    Batteries also act like batteries

    They are not complicated.

They can be charged with many kinds of techs and resources from now and any future great idea that turn a magnet cylinder.

With little effort we can implement this tech immediately to reduce oil consumption.

This would reduce the price of oil and improve the economy.

This would also reduce Pollution even if the battery was recharged with a coal plant.
