Hyo-Joo Kim played a great game in the qualifying round and managed to win the medal after a tough competition. She faced off Lydia Ko and won by a single stroke lead.

Being the top player, Kim got the first match of the day. She was paired with the American player Megan Khang. To some, it was an unfair pairing with the top player on one side and the 64th place player on the other.
The match proved to be on sided with Kim winning it by a great score of 7 and 6. Nevertheless, Kim was delighted with her win.
Talking about it after the match, she said, “My putter was working well today. I'm happy with how I played today. With a match coming up tomorrow, I'll try to get some rest."
In the next round, Kim will face Isabelle Lendl. Lendl played an average game in the qualifying round and was placed in the 32nd place. She was paired with the 33rd place, Whitney Hillier of Australia. The match proved to be exciting
and Lendl won it by a score of 2 and 1.
Other top rated players also played well in the first round. The second seeded Lydia Ko won her match with ease.
She was paired with Amy Beth Simanton of the US, who proved to be of no match for Ko. The final result was 4 and 3 in Ko’s favour.
