Hyperlexia . . . Autism . . . Aspergers?

Question

My son has just been diagnosed with Hyperlexia . . . how is this different from HFA or Aspergers? It appears the disorder should be on the spectrum but is not . . . Thanks.

They are very similar. But you are right Hyperlexia Syndrome is not considered on the spectrum of PDD or autism. Though it really should be. Behavior characteristics, sensory issues, developmental delays and such are all the same. First and foremost, find a good speech pathologist to help get you moving in the right direction for language skills. That is one of the main concerns, the sooner it starts the better for the child.
