Hyphenated baby name?

My name is hyphenated my madien and my husbands.. Should I hyphenate my childs name or have the baby carry only my husbands?

I would Hyphenate you childrens because it will give them a unique name unlike anyone else i know a girl whos name is like that and she loves it!

I gave my daughter her father's last name, and though he and I are still together and I love him very deeply, I regret soooo much that I did not hyphenate her last name.

But, I guess it really depends on how much you like your last name and if you want it to be carried on (do you have any brothers that have/will have kids?).

You can. It's up to you. I would suggest that because then you got your maiden name in there so you can continue on the name.

I'd just give the baby your husband's last name. Unless both names are very short and flow well together.

If you really wanted to incorporate your name you could use it as a middle name.

Try Hertzlin-Johansson!  Jennifer Hertzlin-Johansson.  Not a pretty site... I had to spell out my name for so many people, and most of the time my name wouldn't even fit on forms!!!

Hm. I understand you want to carry on the family legacy but what are the odds your child(ren) will also carry on your last name when THEY have children or get married? Just something to think about.

I am planning on using my last name as a second middle name with my child because I am not married to the father. We are deeply in love but I somehow wouldn't feel right if my child didn't share the same last name with me so my solution was two middle names.

I'm facing that problem now- my parents chose to give me a hyphenated last name (and first, actually) and now I'm getting married and have no idea whether to keep my own, take his, or hyphenate all three.

To give you an idea, my name is Gemma-Charlotte Katherine Harper-Jonesburg. I'd like to take my husband's last name while keeping my own, which is nearly impossible now.

My advice would be to not hyphenate it (especially if it's a girl, as she may enounter problems if/when she marries). Give your last name to your child as a middle name. It'll be there, but makes it easier on the baby :)

The only time I would recommend giving your children a hyphenated last name is when there are no male children to carry on your family name, in which case you are doing so while still giving them their father's last name.

If you want to incorporate your maiden name into their name, I know several people who give their children two middle names, the second of which is the mother's maiden name. I even know one family who skipped the "original" middle name for their children, and all of their kids got the mother's maiden name for their middle name - no second middle name! :)
