Question:

Hypnosis, Is This Normal?

I bought a CD today by Susan Hepburn to get me off smoking. I listened and once I fell under I bloody loved it, it was so relaxing, I didn't want to wake up I noticed my eyes kept twitching and had like tingles in my legs. I woke up and shortly after had a smoke So obviously didn't do that much good, but I feel bloody excellent now, I am on a high for no particular reason.

Is this the norm with hypnosis? I wonder why I am still smoking though?

  1. Listening one time wont do the trick buddy

do it as a normal routine and it'll help

  2. Hello Irish

The physical sensations are very normal.

Hypnosis can only help someone to stop smoking who really desires to, if you are doing it out of curiosity or because you feel that you should then it will fail.

There is also the possibility of subconscious blocks, if you are sincere about stopping & you need a hypnotherapist to help you with those.

  3. Hypnosis CD are great, but they do have a disadvantage. They aren't customized for you (in other words, they are generic)

Everyone that does something, does it for different reasons.  If this particular script/CD doesn't address your specific reasons for smoking, it likely won't be as effective.  Also depending on how open you were to it (sounds like it was your first time) you might have been a little less open to accepting the suggestions given.  Now that you know what it's about, the next time you listen, you will be even more open to it.

But the thing to remember, it is a process. Only about 30% of people will, have a single session and never smoke again.  The next 30% it takes a few sessions. The next 30% usually require a more specific technique that addresses their issues directly (typically these have to be 1-on-1 sessions as the suggestions need to be adjusted)...

And I know your going to ask about that last 10%.   They are the group, that are one that are not motivated to stop smoking, or are stopping for the wrong reasons (ie, wife or girlfriend wants them to stop,  job/law is making them stop, etc.)  The reason for someone to stop smoking needs to come from them, otherwise, there tends to be a bit of a rebel response to any suggestion with regards to becoming a non-smoker.

From what you have described, it sounds like the hypnosis was effective for you.  I would listen to it a couple times a day (when/where safe to do so, i.e. not while driving, etc) for a week or so and see how things go after that.  You will likely that your smoking has decreased and remember, that's progress.

    Good luck!

PS: Watch how you phrase your goals of becoming a non-smoker.  Think of it as "You choice to become a non-smoker" and not as "I'm going to quit smoking" (we are all brought up with the belief that no one likes a quitter)  So watch the way you refer to your goals, and keep them in a positive form.

  4. Did you expect someone to hit you on the head with a bat if you even thought about smoking ???????  You had the cigarettes there and a match or lighter  how about someone to jump on your chest to get you started. Did you follow the instructions that came with the CD.? Try using the CD at least three times a day with earphones. after you rid the house of all smoking material- this is very important.. Did you get the instructions with the CD ? I just have a feeling you did not or you did not read them-just a feeling mind you

If you were working with  a hypnotist, the hypnotist would have noticed what level you had gone to and taken you even deeper (and more relaxed) and the suggestion would have been more effective or a suggestion that smoking would produce a very unpleasent result.

read the directions, clean the house,  use earphones, enjoy the relaxation and repeat often 3x per day more if you have the time  you can not have smoking material in the house,no ashtrays , no matches unless they are needed for something else. YOU ARE STILL SMOKING BECAUSE YOU WANT TO SMOKE. YOU ARE STILL SMOKING BECAUSE YOU TRIED SHORT CUTS, AND NICOTINE IS VERY ADICTIVE AND YOU HAVE TO WORK AT GETTING OUT OF YOUR LIFE.

    sorry for the sermon. lol
