Hypo Tirol emerges as top team of Austrian Volleyball League – Volleyball news
The final round of the Austrian National Volleyball League completed its length on Thursday, April 14.
Two top volleyball clubs of Austria, Hypo Tirol Innsbruck and Posojilnica AICH/DOB clashed in the final showdown and showed their thirst for better status. A total of four matches were played in the decisive “best of five” round, while Hypo Tirol settled
for the Austrian crown by finishing with the final score of 3-1 in fourth match.
The last encounter of the final round was a complete ball of fury. The two teams spiked it hard to climb up the top rank but victory graced only Hypo Tirol Team. They performed stunningly well and posted 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, and 25-23) victory over AICH/DOB.
The Hypo Tirol added third consecutive gold medal to their count.
The match started out with strong serves from Hypo Tirol side. The head coach, Stefan Chriansky had assembled a great team-line and each member of the team was equally active in the game. They put away the ball opponents’ half with a great precision and
accuracy, which earned them an early lead.
However, the AICH/DOB team was ready to challenge the archrivals with their fighting skills. They put up a great resistance and hit some nice shots to raise their score. The opening set of the game progressed with an incredible close margin of points. The
exchange of fast spikes and tricky bump-passes created a great thrill in the match. The spectators made huge noises and raised slogans in the support of their respective teams. The first set slightly inched its way to the end, while Hypo Tirol was ahead of
AICH/DOB. Although they had a narrow margin but they kept their leading role in the game. Finally, the boys of Chriansky sparked on the scene and hit the finish line at 25-19.
Hypo Tirol had good energy after capturing the first set, while AICH/DOB was up for revenge by all means. They hit back strongly in the second set and tried to cover the deficit of previous set. Nonetheless, it was not an easy task to break the rhythm of
pumped-up Hypo Tirol team. AICH/DOB threw everything in attack but lagged behind.
Despite of great efforts, AICH/DOB once again failed to deal with the opponents. Hypo Tirol finished the second set with same score of 25-19 and extended its lead to 2-0.
It had become a ‘do or die’ situation for AICH/DOB in the third set. After dropping the two sets in row, they were deep down in trouble. The clouds of uncertainty started hovering on them. Meanwhile, the Hypo Tirol came strong on them. They were perfectly
shaped up to clinch victory in the fourth match. AICH/DOB struggled to gain stability but could not achieve the desired results. The third set ended with the final score of 25-23 and Hypo Tirol claimed the match victory.
Daniel Gavan, the captain of Hypo Tirol Innsbruck was overjoyed with the amazing sense of triumph. He shared his thoughts after the match in following manner and stated, “The last game of the Championship series is always the sweetest to remember, especially
because you can celebrate your win. We started a bit nervously but could claim set 1 and 2 with our good serves and blocks. I would like to praise the effort of AICH/DOB as they went for their last chance in the third set. I am happy that after a well deserved
break I will now join the national team.”
Meanwhile, Gerald Reiser of the AICH/DOB has his say about the failure in the final match. In his opinion, the injuries of players did not allow them to bring on their best and eventually they had to lose the match.
The head coach of AICH/DOB, Igor Simuncic regretted the loss of important match of the league.
He commented, “We are somehow disappointed, however by tomorrow we’ll proud of our achievements. It was a wonderful season for us, as we made it to the semis of the GM Capital Challenge Cup and the final of the national league. Tirol was really strong in
block and defense and they deserved to win the title.”
