  1. looksie, people aint alergic to animal fur, i know we have genetical allergy of all types and severities in my fam

people are alergic to a protein that can be found in most animals produse, hence geting a hairless animal (not bird reptile or fish, but animal animal here) has no bearing if the animal aint hypo alergic (ie produce less of the protein), so its not the fur/hair in itself people react to, its the protein that can be found in any drop products of the animals - dandruff, fluids etc

also important doodle mutts and whatnot is not gurantied hypo alergic, + any hypo alergic breed need to be tested on the person who is alergic, with mutts each dog is essentialy a new breed so testing one doodle is not to say the next doodle would work

hence if you want hypo alergic animals that has some cudely fur, your best chanse is to go with actual hypo alergic real breeds, there are several dogs like snauzer, bichon frise, poodle etc (there is many more), black cats have a tendancy to be hypo alergic, however here again you have to test the individual to make sure. There is developed a hypoalergic cat breed in america, and the sibirian cat from russia is also known as hypoalergenic

though spynx is listed to be belived to be hypoallergenic

here wiki have a list, it only seem to cover cat, dog and horse though

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypoallerge...

just be aware that hairless dont nesicarily mean hypoalergenic

also there are meds who can help her, in a combination with washing her hands after peting the animal (so she dont rub it in her face) and keeping the animal to restricted rooms of the house.

poleramid 6mg is about some of the strongest you can get, used in combination with medical nasal spray for allergy, then a lot of people can live either with hypo allergenic animals, or even normal animals without a problem

  2. Dogs mixed with poodles - labradoodles, shepadoodles, etc are hypoallergenic because poodles have hair instead of fur like other dogs and are great for the allergy prone pet lover!

  3. I know that there is a cat that is hairless, but i cant remember the name of them....they are reeaaalllly ugly though. I think they are so ugly they are cute! (like on the movie Austin Powers!)

  4. If your mom is allergic to fur, don't get any kind of mammal. What about a reptile or a bird? Bearded dragons are good lizards for beginners and don't mind being handled.

  5. Guinea pig.  They rarely cause allergy problems (and the hairless "skinnies" aren't creepy).  They are really friendly but you do need to have at least two of the same gender (even two males will work well) or get the male neutered and wait two-three weeks before putting him in with the female.  No matter how much time you spend with a guinea pig, it needs another one for company.  Some have been known to waste away without another one and tend only to live for a year or two versus the six to eight that they should be.  Shelters and rescues are the best (and often cheapest) places to get them as often the ones in the stores have illnesses that you may not notice until after you get home.  Also, any males that you get from shelters and rescues are usually already neutered so that you don't have to try to find a vet yourself that can do it.  If all you have are males (no females in earshot) then there isn't a need to neuter them as it doesn't affect their behavior at all-unlike with dogs, cats, and rabbits.

Get one of the C&C cages (http://www.guineapigcages.com/cubes.htm)... they are the best overall and a fraction of the price of even the the smallest that you'll find in the pet store.

  6. be careful with the poodle mixes.  most people dont know that only third generation "doodles" will be hypoallergenic.  which means, when a poodle and lab mate, they have  a second generation labradoodle.  you have to breed two second generation labradoodles to get a hypoallergenic labradoodle. how about a hairless cat?  or a chinese crested dog?

  7. Try a hamster ( the cuddliest animal ON EARTH) because my dad is super allergic to fur, but he was fine with a hamster!! I also would recomend a ferret, chinchilla or degu! ( look up a degu if u dont know wot it is lol) :]

  8. Hi! i have a similar prob........me AND my mom are allergic to furries! of course, its not that bad 4 us, bc i have a guinea pig and she doesnt bother me much. as for you, i would say to get a hypoallergenic puppy........such as a Bichon, Maltese etc...there are also hypoallergenic cats that have fur (?!?!) but they are pretty expensive, as well as the Sphinx Cat (hairless). you could look into a Skinny Pig (guinea piggy with no fur)...i have a black bear hamster . They only have peach fuzz and there isnt enough to bother anyone, they are definitely "hypoallergenic"..they are clean and dont have pet dander...

any of these pets make really great companions that can become friendly and loving. since you want a rodent and cant get a doggie or kittie, i would recommend a skinny pig or Black Bear Hamster.

    good luck!

  9. I think a reptile would be the safest thing to do. Can't really cuddle but at least your mom will be okay

  10. If you're absolutely sure she's just allergic to fur, I'd look into a skinny pig! They're hairless guinea pigs. They are a little fuzzy on places like their feet and nose, but otherwise pretty bald.

Be warned, I've heard they have a lower immune system and are more prone to diseases.

Add: The person below me is thinking of Sphynx cats. I think they're adorable and I would like one myself.
