Do you know any male infant that had to have this surgery done for Hypospadias?

What age was it done?

How long did it last?

Was the baby okay after?

My 3 week old son has to have this done :(

  1. Hello,

I have hypospadias and would recommend you check out HEAinfo.org.

Most surgeons like to do this surgery before 18months of age. If there are no complications, the surgery could be good for decades. Bear in mind that most moderate to severe cases will require more than one procedure. If your son is very mild, with the opening just under the head, you might consider leaving it as is.

  2. The normal age that the operation is done now is usually around a year old.  If the operation is successful, it lasts for life. A lot depends on how severe his condition is.  There are degrees of hypospadias.  Some are relatively minor and some are severe.  Mine was type three which is the most severe and it took several operations to correct mine.  You want to fine a doctor that has the most experience possible.  Don't be afraid to get a second opinion.  It is very important to get a doctor you feel good about and one that has a lot of experience in this type of operation.  This site might help you.

Good luck and God bless you.

  3. I'm sorry I don't have an answer, but I'd just like to wish you and your son the best.  Good luck, and don't worry too much.

  4. I would highly encourage you to get a second opinion from another pediatrician or urologist to see if the surgery would really be necessary.

My son was born with hypospadias and the doctor said that for his, it did not appear that it would interfere with his penile functions.  He said he could perform the surgery if we wanted to, but that he did not need to have it done.  We decided not to have the surgery done.  There are different severity to having hypospadias, i assume my son's was not that severe.  My son is now 7 years old and he has never had any issues with it.

What ever happens, I hope for the best for your son :)
