Lets say you posted a request on YA Books & Authors for recommendations on what book to read next. You got a few run of the mill submissions, and two that are competeing in your mind for Best Answer and the ten points.

Answer A. Went through the trouble of looking at your past questions/answers to determine your general likes and dislikes. Gave a short list of reasons tailored specifically to you why they think you would like this book. They give a brief summary of the story and include a link to page with more information on the book and where you can buy it. The only problem is, it's a book you've already read and you were looking for something new.

Answer B. suggestion only has the title and author and a generic statement about how great the book is. It happens to be a book that you've been considering for a while, and you keep hearing great things about. After getting the response of Answer B, you're definetly going to purchase and read this book.

  1. B with an explanation to A.

I'm sure that A will understand and live on.

  2. I would probably give A the nod since they put so much effort into the answer.  Why penalize them for not knowing what you have and have not read?  Sounds like answer B didn't give you any more than you already knew anyhow.  Anyone can say, "Hey, read the Bible (or whatever)!  It's great!"

As a side note, read The Death of Common Sense by Phillip K. Howard.  It's a really good book if you are into politics and social policy.

  3. Huh?  I'd go with answer B.

  4. I agree with "stupid should hurt" (lol love the name) any ways A went through a lot of trouble to find what you like and B probably took a luck guess or someone have been telling B to read the book then offer it to you...

A should WIN all the way...

  5. I agree, B with a thank you and explanation to A.  Talk about above and beyond!
