Hypothetical Question about using Limewire?

So lets say hypothetically I was to using the free Basic limewire package download movies and lots of songs and music videos and saved them to my computer and not sell or anything like that but just keep them for my self would this be against the law? Could I go to jail?

What if you hypothetically stole a car and just parked it in your garage instead of trying to sell it or give it away to someone?

Is that against the law?
