Question:

Hypothetical question about legalizing drugs?

I can't say that I'm for or against legalizing drugs.

However, what would happen if we WERE to legalize drugs and make it a legitimate industry? Wouldn't that put an end to most of the drug-dealing related crime we see like turf wars between dealers? Plus, if drugs were legal, the prices would sink so much that it would drastically cut down on the need for addicts to steal and commit crimes to fund their habits. And with all the money we would save on imprisoning simple non-violent drug users and and all he money we'd make on taxing the drug sales, wouldn't that mean we'd be able to better fund treatment for addicts and keep them off of the streets?

Just curious.

  1. hemp is the best performing biofuel it whould bankrupt the oil industry

  2. I agree with you. I think legalizing drugs would reduce the crime rate significantly. The only reason they're illegal is because they're so mind-altering and dangerous, and most people don't want the world to be full of drug addicts. (even though it already is lol.) On that note, I think it's completely hypocritical for all the other drugs to be illegal (depending on what state you live in) and for cigarettes to still be legal. The only reason they're still legal is because the majority of companies in the US are sponsored by tobacco companies, and our entire economy would crash if they were shut down.

I thought this was a country of choice. :( I understand that laws are made to protect people's rights, but I don't see how me buying and snorting cocaine violates anyone else's rights. It's my choice, and it doesn't hurt anyone else.

  3. you do have a point.

problem is the u.s government needs to keep drugs ilegal since most fo the money stays in the u.s.

a kilo of pure  colombian cocaine (costs 300 dollars.) once it goes to the u.s it is sold at 130 dollars a gram. so that same kilo goes from 300 dollars to 135.000 u.s dollars,..and sometimes much more.

most of that money never makes it back to colombia. it stays in the u.s and makes part of the economy, some of it goes back, in the form of weapons , imports and somethimes a few bucks.

if drugs were legal, everyhting you say woudl happen and let me add.

the conflicts in colombia would stop, since the rebels and druglords would not have any monye to buy weapons. some of the forests would grow again , because since its not profitable it will stop.

one thing is certain, drug adicts would rise , and the u.s govt. knows this and knows that it will have to treat them. another reason not to leaglize since shooting and putting people in jail is cheaper.

as chirs rock once said, ..if you wnat to stay out of trouble buy the govt´s drugs, from the big pharmaceutical companies, not from the street.

there is an stablished business and they are willing to figth for it, just like street gangs.

  4. i say legalize them, but only if you are hot

  5. It would be an improvement.  The same thing that happened when alcohol was illegal is happening with drugs.  Money is being pumped into the pockets of organized crime.

The Libertarian party is the only political party that has what to do about illegal drugs.

  6. they need to do it already....

  7. It would be Great to take the Money out of Gangs! The problem is that the Government Makes a Ton of Money and keeps this Country in Chaos! Allowing Them too control and Divide us with Fear! Then there's that whole;

But what will the Children think?!

This is where Parenting and Being Honest comes into play. This is one of  the Privileges of being a Responsible  ADULT!!! We don't let a 14 year old Legally Drive Cars (except in Emergencies) do we?!

Republicans say they are for Freedoms but they only mean for Corporations and NOT for You and Me.

Besides, Who do you think Flooded the Cocaine market in the 80's too Finance the Iran/Contra Scam?!

    Don't worry Momma!

    I'm voting for Obama!

  8. no i dont think it would cut down on addicts stealing and commiting crimes to get the drugs. the thing with drugs and addiction. u always do what u have. meening if it was cheaper u could get more but you'd build a tolerance faster and still do all u have.........

also in essence it is a legitimate industry not legal but it is legitimate in fact its a billion dollar plus a year industry possibly even a trillion dollar a year industry.................

now i truly believe that weed should be legalized, and no i do not smoke.

anyways it should be legalized over alcohol.

    \

however if u legalized all drugs u would have hundreds maybe thousands more deaths a year from OD.

and it would just be a different type of people making the money from them and in turn would become the same type of people that sell them now.........
