Suppose that he has karaoke, a great audio library and disco lighting, is well-groomed, tactful, polite, etc.

  1. The price you mentioned would have been the very cheapest price I've ever seen. I live in MD and they average price for a Wedding DJ ranges from 800 to 1200, depending on the length and the task assigned to the DJ.

If that's for real, make sure it's in writing to validate the correct amount to be paid to a DJ.

  2. I live in Northern Ohio and yes I would (what does location have to do with it anyway?). For starters Dj-ing at a club and at a wedding are 2 different things. I'd want to know that you aren't going to be obnoxious as some club DJ's are.

Price has no bearing on whether you are suitable for what a bridal couple are looking for. Neither does equipment. Some people just want to make sure personalities mesh rather than clash.

  3. thats a good price.I'd go with you.Most people would interview,though.

  4. Ask important questions such as:

    1. What happens if he is sick/injured or cannot perform on your wedding day?

    2. Does he have backup equipment?

    3. Is he insured?

    4. How many weddings has he done? (This can be important since it requires a certain amount of knowledge to emcee an event like a wedding).

    5. Get referrals from real weddings he's performed at recently.

    6. Be sure to listen to his performances and be sure his equipment can handle your venue.

Be sure to get everything in a written contract.

  5. I would interview the DJ no matter what price they charge.  Your DJ is one of the main things that determine the success of your reception.  Because of this, you want to make sure the personality and voice is something you can put up with for however many hours your reception will be lasting for.

  6. I don't see why you wouldn't.  Just because something is less expensive doesn't mean it is cheap.  People do stuff on the side because they love it.  This may be one of them.  Look at what they have to offer, ask for a reference or two, and if it all checks out, go for it.

  7. Hypothetically, I would.  I've seen parties and weddings where they paid several times more and got a lousy DJ.  If the guy was all you say and put on a good show, I'd probably hire him.
