Hyun-Hee Moon performs well in first round of LPGA Hana Bank Championship 2012
South Korean Hyun-Hee Moon displayed an electrifying performance in the opening round of LPGA Hana Bank Championship 2012 as she shot a 66 to take the share of third position.
However, the young prodigy could not maintain her grip on her game in the second round as she posted a 75 to tie for the 16th position on the leaderboard.
Moon does not rank among the big names in the three-round Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) tournament as the field is featuring stars like current world number one Yani Tseng, Stacy
Lewis, Suzann Pettersen, Lexi Thompson, Paula Creamer, Ai Miyazato, Michelle Wie and Na Yeon Choi.
Yet, the lesser-known golfer held her ground till the final moment of the opening round and made perfect strokes on almost all the holes.
Moon kicked off the round on Friday at Ocean Course, Incheon, South Korea, in impressive style as she shot a birdie on the first hole. She then parred the second hole and ended up registering
a birdie on the difficult par-3 third.
After suffering a brief setback that came in the form of early bogey, Moon decided to play an aggressive game, and it worked better than she had hoped. She reeled off six birdies after that,
cementing her position on the leaderboard.
On the back nine, Moon avoided carding a bogey, but kept amazing her fans by shooting birdies. She sent the local crowd clapping after she drained two straight birdies on the 17th
and 18th hole.
Sharing her thoughts at the end of the round on Friday, Moon said that she was a bit jittery at first as she thought the course would prove tough. She said that her confidence spiralled after
she launched her second birdie.
“The golf course was going to be difficult so I didn't get to make such a good score today.  I think overall I played really well today and I putted very well,” Moon said.
“In Korea we have LPGA rounds once a year, and I believe all players want to participate in this tournament.  So it's a great honor for me to be able to be here.  My score has not been really
good lately, and I heard this time everybody goes to fun, so I kind of wanted to boost my confidence, and I think I did it today”.
