  1. I own a 01' Elantra 5-door GT and it has 135,000+ miles on it. 115,000 after a pretty bad accident with a pick up truck. That's why I so impressed with it. I still get 33-34 mpg highway at 65 mph. 35 if I stay in the 50's. I think it's very good car. Consumer Reports in the US named the new Elantra SE top pick in the class.http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/cars/...

You will run into people who look down at Hyundai's but they are truly near Japanese quality. Not just my opinion http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/2004...

  2. Hi!

Hyundai are no good.  I have a bad experience as a owner of Hyundai.

May be Hyundai are cheap but they don't worth for their money.  They are not cars, they are very expensive toys.

Read and search a lot before to buy.

See links for details.   Good Luck!

  3. I have owed 2 of them a sedan and a hatch, these being the previous model to the current shape,

I have no hesitations to recomend them to anyone.

Most of the running gear is carried over to the new model but you get a even more refiened car.

    Top things i like.

    1.  Can be driven hard and is rather quick when doing so.

    2.  If driving sedate and who dosent these days with petrol prices you can get good return from the tank, we get around 8L per hundred with stop start trafic.

    3.  Alot of room both front and back, even with a 6ft2 person in the back there is rearly ever the need to move the front seats forward from fully back

    4.  Big boot

    5.  Full size spare

    6.  5 year warranty, which to tell you the truth isnt too bad with dealing with the service agents.

    7.  Servicing is cheap (not through hyundai we found) we are paying only $160 for most services (log booked)

    8.  Saftey isnt too bad dual airbags lap sash seat belts all round

    The Bad

    1.  Stereo could be a bit better

    2.  Still a bit of road noise (but this has improved with the newer model)

    3.  Hyundai after purchase service was a pain in the *** with some delivery hassles that we had (but that was fixed better than I hoped)

    4.  They seem to like to chew tires, the originals where average at best, and where a litle slippery in the wet (they lasted around the 30 thousand mark, however the yokohama;s are wairing quiker :(

    5.  The auto is not sporty enough (was made for europeon autobarhns, but If i remember right they lowered the gearing on it

Overall the bads are minor we have had no issues with the build or quality of the cars and I think you could go a h**l of a lot worse with paying considerably more.

  4. My family has had three different Excels, one of which is currently over 350,000 km. There is nothing wrong with it, except from the red dust everywhere because my Dad uses it on his rural mail delivery run (280 kms a day, and over 2000 gearchanges over 500 stops in the run on dirt roads) with the windows down.

Hyundai do still make the Elantra, and yes, it is a well-made, reliable car. You get a 5 year warranty. It is not as flashy as a European or Japanese car in the same class, nor does it come with as much equipment, but then it is cheaper.

The i30 is more of an upmarket competitor to the Japanese cars in the same category, it is the same size as the Elantra hatch, but has a nicer interior, more equipment and options, and more European styling than the Elantra. It is also more expensive, but then, you get what you pay for.

If you want a cheap and cheerful medium size car, then I would definitely recommend an Elantra.

  5. Hyundai do not produce Elantra anymore.

  6. you can get information here

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyundai_Ela...

  7. good-  go for a test drive in a hyundai i30 turbo diesel with manual trans.  i30s are pretty much elantras but the diesel is economical and surprisingly torquey.  good 5 year warranty.   i work on them, they're good cars.

*hyundais quality has improved dramatically and now they are no less reliable than any other car.

sofpan had a 98 accent which he had problems with and has decided that all hyundais must be bad.  you could buy a $200,000 bmw and have problems with it.

if you follow the links that sofpan posts everywhere you will see that his logic is somewhat twisted.  one persons opinion based on one car is worth nothing.

  8. Hyundai's are cheap cars, cheap as in poorly made... sorry to all Hyundai fans, however I know of a few people who have had nothing but problems with them.  There are other economical cars on the market.  In the long run you will be spending more money by repairing it all the time. Seriously consider other options before committing yourself to this car.

  9. I think they are good I have a Hyundai sonata 4 cylinder 16 valve 5 speed manual and it is the best car I have ever owned, I love it.

  10. I agree with Sofpan, do some research online, his own link proves that he is wrong, how funny is that?!_!  Please also try the yahoo auto section and http://www.edmunds.com and you will find 100's of reviews by actual owners of the elantra and any other car you are interested in.  In America the Elantra is very popular and reliable, and Hyundai is a Consumer Reports best buy for several years now.  Hyundai is the 7th best selling brand and depreciation is similar to American brands and Nissan.

  11. Sofpan is a complete jerk... drives a Hyundai that is 10 year old and complains on how bad Hyundai cars are. somehow I can't help believe he is brainless so don't pay any attention to him. I have two Hyundai cars and they are the best cars I have ever owned yet. If to do over I woud buy them again and will buy a Hyundai car again. And one of them if not both I will drive for 10 or more years.
