Hyundai Tournament of Champions: Proceeds will go to charities in Hawaii – Golf News
The Tournament of Champions kicked off the 2012 PGA Tour with Pro-Am matches at the Kapalua Plantation Course on January 5, 2012.
The tournament's organising committee has announced to donate the proceeds of the tournament to six of the local charities of Kapalua.
This is not the first time that the tournament officials are contributing to the welfare of the community.
Since the tournament was moved to Kapalua in 1999, the organisations that host the event have been making as much contribution to the charities as they can. Until now, an amount of $3.8 million has been given away to the needy in the region.
Hyundai, the title sponsor of the season-opener, awarded Hyundai Scholar Grant of $50,000 to the Kаpi'olаni Medical Center for Women & Children of Honolulu.
This grant increased the total amount to $270,000 donated to the medical centre since 2009.
The grand was presented to Dr. Randy Wada, Pediаtric Hemаtоlоgist/Oncologist & Medical Director, Pediаtric Bone Marrow Transplant Program, Kаpi'оlаni Medical Center for Women & Children, during a Hope on Wheels Handprint Ceremony.
"The current grant will allow us to take what we have learned from previous funding, and leverage this knowledge by utilizing MyHealthAdvantage, Hawai'i Pacific Health's exciting new web-based patient information portal," said Dr. Wada.
"We are deeply grateful for the opportunities afforded us by Hope on Wheels, and believe that they will bode well for the futures of the many patients we have been entrusted to serve".
Kаpi'olаni staff will use the amount to create a healthy environment for the children with the help of new furniture, technology and development toys.
As a result, the move will help the children diagnosed with cancer to gain awareness of the treatment in an effective and comfortable manner.
In the play room developed for the children, teachers and parents will also contribute in the activities in order to help them continue with their studies.
"Our playroom is essential to the care we provide our young patients here at Kapi'olani," said Martha Smith, COO of Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women & Children.
Hyundai has been working for the last 14 years to help eliminate cancer in children.
