My tuscon has died twice whilst driving in the past fortnight. As braking the car literally goes to sleep on you with the 1st sign being No steering - this has happened in the middle of traffic....Whats making this more frustrating is that it is NOT consistent - i have taken it back to the dealership each time only to be told that the computer has not recorded a fault, thay have driven the car without a fault & i should just bring it back if it happens again. The warranty runs out in 2 wks - so maybe the computer will record something then.....any ideas out there????

  1. so the engine shuts off-  what about the accessories?  when it cuts out so you still have dash lights or no power at all?   does it start straight up after?  is there anything common about when this happens- like temperature or driving conditions?

i'm assuming you're not in australia because hyundais here have 5 year warranty.  whats the milage on the car?

  2. A little more detail would be good. Like the others are guessing I think it's something electrical. The MAF sensor could be going bad.

  3. Goodafternoon. It's the quality of the Hyundais.  You had a bad choice as I had. Don't make another mistake and keep give them money.

    For details see the links

  4. You should sell it as soon as possible...this is a manufacturers defect that Hyundai is trying to sweep under the rug....It is a very dangerous problem....This happens to about 1 in 4 Hyundais....contact your state legislatures to see if you can join the class-action lawsuit that is now forming...good-luck

  5. You may have to get a second opinion from another Hyundai dealership.  Often, they will look for the problem with more force to impress you and keep you as their customer (competition is good for the soul & the repair :-)

Almost all the engine stalling is caused by poor connection of the power and ground circuit. The purpose of an inspection is to find the reason of the engine stalling by checking condition of the power and ground circuit. A check of the fuses and condition of harness.

    Power Circuit,  Ground Circuit

If engine stalls intermittently it could be fuel system.  They need to measure fuel pressure and check power circuit.

Fuel Pump Relay, Fuel Pump Harness, Fuel Pressure, Injectors

If engine stalls quickly you should have an Ignition system Inspection procedure.  Engine stalling by inaccurate ignition system is similar to engine stalling by cutting power supply.

Ignition Coil Harness, Ignition Coil, Spark Plug & Cable

  6. it's a hyundai never buy one again i had the same problems with my

  7. I'd say check your battery terminals for corrosion or if they are loose then have the battery checked to see if it needs replacing.  Batteries typically only last 3-4 years, so that may be the problem and is a simple enough fix.  Unless your check engine light comes on or another dash light, I don't think the computer will record anything.

  8. A big issue on the Tucson in regards to stalling is either the throttle position switch or the mass air flow sensor. I be willing to be that is they were to replace the throttle position position sensor your issue would be resolved.
