The Bayer Leverkusen tactician has praised his partner ahead of the start of the new season and is hopeful that his side lives up to the expectations of the fans.
Werkself sacked former manager Robin Dutt with six games remaining last season after a series of disappointing results. The club appointed Sami Hyypia and Sascha Lewandowski as interim coaches until the end of the season. The duo
were impressive in the six games they managed, winning four times and drawing the other two games.
The Leverkusen side decided to give both Hyypia and Lewandowski another chance and signed them for a long-term deal.
Sami Hyypia claimed that his partnership with Sascha has been great and admitted that both of them bring something new to the team. The former defender expressed his delight on the team’s showing in the last six games of the previous
season and is confident that the team can achieve big in the next campaign.
“It's great having Sascha there. He has the experience of being a coach for years and he thinks about football in a similar way to me. Last season, when we were in charge for six games, it really showed me that it can work,” he
was quoted as saying in an interview.

“If the club wants success then it can't sell all the best players every year. So it is a sign that the club wants success, and it is great for us in the coaching staff to keep those players. Andre and Lars can be important for
the team this season - you always need good players,” he concluded.
Sami Hyypia and Sascha Lewandowski will manage their first game in the Bundesliga this season against Eintracht Frankfurt at the Commerzbank Arena on Saturday, August 25.
