Windos comes with a small program called WordPad

Start > Programs > Accesorries > click on Wordpad

You could download Open Office if you want a full featured program. It is free.

You have a few choices of word processors and text editors.

At the very minimum you can use Notepad or Wordpad on Windows.

Then there's Open Office (a full open source and free office suite) and AbiWord (an open source and free word processor only), which are two of the best.

Then there's the online stuff like Google Documents.
