  1. Your question needs more info.....are you talking about an outboard , a sterndrive or an inboard? If you are talking about the first two I mentioned......you want the cavitation plate ( the flat plate above the prop) to be even with the keel ( centerline , bottom). This will allow for good water pick up and the best performance of your prop.

  3. the crank shaft center lline of the engine has to be exactly aligned with the input shaft of the outdrive, so wherever the engine is positioned after that is aligned, is where it should be. remove the out drive and you have to install the engine alignment bar into the gimble bearing in the gimble  housing into the engine coupler which is bolted to the crank shaft.  move the engine mount alignment threads to align the engine to the out drive. thats how its set up. my boyfriend knows this kind of thing he races offshore racing and has two bad *** boats
