I'am DEEPHAN, after joining in college simply I changed as DEEPAN. Now I had a problem in applying passport.

Older certificates are mentioning as 'DEEPHAN' but college certificates mentioning as 'DEEPAN'. Is there any other way to apply for passport without changing my spell? or I have to change it?

get an affidavit made at the Metropolitan court signed by the magistrate and then advertise it in the local news paper. thats the only way

Just placing ads in leading newspapers will not be enough..Your change of name should come in government gazette...

So,go to your state secretriat office and contact officials regarding this...They will help you...

get an affidavit made at the Metropolitan court signed by the magistrate, stating that you are so and so( i.e. the name by which  you would like to be known hence forth) , son of so and so etc. and that you are also known as ..(mention all the names with different spellings( if there are more than one spelling variations) and that all these names are of one and the same person etc.

get few copies of the affidavit, as you may have to submit the original to the passport office, along with your application.

you can also change your name by publishing in the gazette.

so catch hold of a good advocate.

please remember, in future you have to be very careful while writing your full name and all the related names, as variations in them may land you in serious problems.

your passport is a very important document, and once your name appears in it , you must stick to the style of your name every time you mention your name in any document, certificate, application etc.

Dear Deepan, there is one way out for you, put an advertisement in the local newspaper 'Change of Name' classifieds mentioning 'I Deephan S/O ........., Residence of........., has changed my name to Deepan, so from now on all should call me by the name of Deepan. After publishing this in the newspaper, cut the page with your change of name Ad and attach it with your passport application, Hope it will be accepted, encircle  your ad with pen mark to find it easily, also make photocopies of the same, good luck.

y not now u go to notary(advocate) ask him for change of name as u have given in college using that affidavit u can apply for passport but in future don't simply give the name which u want
