  1. Can I suggest that you wait until he returns an entirely different person, work through that and then get married? Unless of course you're pregnant.

You won't even recognize him, especially if he sees combat.

  2. The first question is: Is he active or reserve?  If he's active and lives on a military base, you should be able to live in base housing and also get medical benefits and such.  I believe you need to have your husband notify his unit that he is getting married and admin should help you out.  If he's a reservist, I'm sorry but you are out of luck. He's the only one that benefits from the deployment unless you have a joint bank acct.

  3. as long as you get the paperwork (theoretically, u can even start these benefit overseas too but you can't marry unless together hence preparing paperwork now) in before deployment (see personnel office at local unit) he'll begin to receive basic allowance for quarters (based on zip code), basic allowance for substance (food) and maybe cola (cost of living).  When you deploy, it doesn't matter if you're reservist or active duty, the pay is the same.

But only when active do these benefits apply.

Of course he'll get all the hazard pays that come with deploying.  If you were going to get married anyway, it's better to do it now than later--regarless of the reasons.

Of course, free medical, dental, post exhange privs and many more benefits come with the territory :)

  4. Well, what kind of benefits are you looking for? You sound like a Teelok I had in Thailand, "Hey GI you marry me, take me land of big PX." Are you even going to miss your BF.

  5. i am going to agree with the guy that said all u care about is the benefits. but i will give you the benefit of the doubt and try to help. it takes a while to finish all the processing for benefits and whatnot. so if you are literally getting married right before he leaves dont expect anything. but if you do it atleast like 4 months then u should be ok. make sure your new hubby goes right away and tells them u guys are getting married to get a head start on all the paperwork though and make sure he goes right away after to start on everything. my husband is in iraq right now and let me tell you theres a lot to do. power of attorney. insurance. all kinds of stuff.

  6. You will get great benefits. go to www.arfp.org.. That should help you

  7. Once you are married, you be enrolled in DEERS.  You will get free medical, dental, vision, and if possible, base housing,
