Question:

I'd like a detailed analysis on where Federer can be if he wins the US Open and continues to win this year?

Can someone help me out and do a little breakdown on ATP point rankings of where Fed could possibly be if he wins the US Open...can he possibly get back to number one before the end of the year. I feel like we're possibly watching one of the biggest meltdowns in sports history OR if we're lucky that Fed will somehow find a way to come back and show the world he is the best. All the naysayers are saying that he has no chance to reach Sampras but IF Fed does what he says and plays through the London Olympics, that means he has 16 more Grand Slams. I personally think he can get at least three of those. Perhaps Fed will amaze the world again and hit some kind of second-half career explosion and actually win five or six more to totally seal the deal that he is the GOAT. Anyone?

  1. To clear up the first part of question, he has no shot at number 1 after the us open, cuz he is the defending champ he has a ton of points to defend. On the other hand Nadal only made the quarters a year ago, so if he gets to the finals, or wins it his lead is only gonna grow. But he definetly can pass Nadal by the end of year, with end of year tournament, and other mom and pop tourneys as well. Right now Nadal has 6700 to his 5930. And he absolutely will pass samprass if he plays til 2012, absolutely. But honestly Nadal is the best in the world not just now, but for a while. He is in his prime, and sadly fed ex is exiting his. It would be nice to see them in the us open final though.
