Question:

I'd like a second citizenship

I'm been thinking lately that it would be a nice thing to have dual nationality, so, if **** hits the fan majorly in your home country, you still have the option of going to your second country and having all the legal rights of a citizen at your disposal to make a fresh start.

I'm a British citizen, I'm not picky about where I get my new citizenship, providing it's an entirely legal, internationally recognised country. What are my options? I understand that as I am a British citizen, I am also a European citizen, and thus I am completely free to go and live in any other European Union country. How many years does an EU citizen have to be resident in another EU country before he or she is eigible for citizenship in that country?

Is there any "fast-track" way of getting a second nationality, or would I have to go and live in another country for an extended period of time?

Thanks

  1. are you mexican?

  2. There are few countries that allow "dual citizenship." You should research the destination country you have in mind and find out if dual citizenship is an option. Generally, dual citizenship is awarded to individuals born in the country of parents who are not citizens. Or, using Ireland as an example, you are eligible for citizenship if your parents or grandparents were born in Ireland. Most countries, however, require that you forsake one citizenship in order to obtain another. The rules vary widely, so again, do the research.

As for Britain, you would do well to stand up BEFORE the excrement makes its way fully through the ventilation system. As it stands right now, in  50 years there will be no British people in Britain! So work to fix that while you can.

  3. to get another citizenship you need to live in a country as a permanent resident for a number of years(each country is differernt)  then you can apply for citizenship, so yes you would have to move for awhile

its around 4 years in some countries like australia,

  4. Hello,

There ARE countries providing for "fast-track" way of getting a second citizenship, however only three of them provide for instant citizenship by investment officially: Commonwealth of Dominica, St.Kitts and Nevis, Austria.

We can help you to get a citizenship in Dominica and St.Kitts & Nevis. Please come for our free consultation at http://www.isla-offshore.com/ and read our articles related to the subject.

  5. I think yiou should try UK if u speak English you can also try other countries but only if u speak the language

  6. Going the EU-path is convenient and easy. The number of years you need to reside in the different EU countries before being able to apply for their citizenship varies, but my recommendation for you would be Sweden.

It allows dual citizenship now, and as a British citizen, you will be able to just live there, it's EU.

Also, it's a very beautiful country, whose language can be learned with ease if you speak English, as it is quite related to English (and German, by the way).

It may well be the easiest of the non-English-speaking EU countries to get comfortable in quickly. It also helps that the population is capable of communicating in excellent English if necessary - that can make things easier at the beginning, too.

You would need to reside there permanently for 5 years if my information is still good before you can get citizenship, and Swedish citizenship gives you access to Norway and Iceland, too, which the EU citizenship alone does not (Sweden has reciprocal agreements with Norway and Iceland to allow for this).

    Lycka till (good luck)!

As for other countries, outside of the EU:

It is relatively easy and quick to obtain citizenship of Paraguay, Uruguay, and even New Zealand and Australia; but it is far more of an act to immigrate there than choosing some other EU country would be.

  7. You want fries with that?

Try Australia. They have decent food (UK doesn't). Decent women (UK doesn't), decent actors (UK doesn't -- Sean Connery is a Scot), Decent weather (UK doesn't). and best of all THEY SPEAK ENGLISH.

  8. I thought dual citizenship was only for certain special cases. Like Dylan and Cole Sprouse from the sweet life of zach and cody on disney channel were born in italy, but i guess since they work here and have lived here for a certain amount of time, they have a dual citizenship for america too.

but im no expert. good luck!

  9. Canada, that allows immigration & three years in Canada as immigrant u win the right to apply for citizenship & u can have dual citizenship even. But u need to be a professional ( at least degree level education & ) with at least two years of experience. ( Skilled workers Category for immigration)

I am printing the Canadian government website, please go through it, if u are interested in it.
