How long does it take for the parents of a dependent American citizen to get a green card, if they apply of their own volition?

  1. 1) you have to sponsor them and you have to be at least 21

If the sponsor is a U.S. Citizen, they may petition for the following foreign national relatives to immigrate to the U.S:

    Husband or wife

Unmarried child under 21 years of age

Unmarried son or daughter over 21

Married son or daughter of any age

Brother or sister, if the sponsor is at least 21 years old, or

Parent, if the sponsor is at least 21 years old.

    2) times vary by location where you are and country they are in.

    Good Luck!

  2. Not sure if I understand your question. But you have to apply for them. They can't apply themselves. And the time will depend on what country they're in.

  3. If your parents are illegal it will be faster from their native country. So send them home and let them wait in line like everybody else. good question, I'm glad I could help.

  4. Hi Lucia!  In order to sponsor your parents you will have to be at least 18 years old. You will also have to prove that you can financially support them while they await for their legal status to be adjusted, meaning that you must make certain amount of money above the poverty lines (these vary from state to state and depends on number of relatives you are sponsoring.)  To check the processing dates of various applications, look here: https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/jsps/ptimes....

  5. They can't apply on their own. You would be able to file immigrant visa petitions for them, but not until you turn 21.I'm afraid 18 is the wrong answer. Their ability to get green cards in the US at that point would depend on whether they entered the US with a visa, or entered illegally. If they entered illegally, under current law they would have to leave, get a visa interview back home  and apply for a waiver of the visa ineligibility created by their illegal stay here. If they are approved, they would get the visa and would be able to enter the US legally and get  green cards.

  6. I think you have to wait until you turn 18, then sponsor them. Ignore the first answerer. He/she should be ashamed. Good luck.
