Question:

I'd like to dye some live flowers...?

I'm trying to find out if there are any online tutorials or if anyone knows how to do this. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to put the dye directly into the root system, or to inject it into the stem, or...? Also, what kind of dye should I use?

And does it matter what species of flower it is?

If anyone knows anything, or any site that I can find these answers at, that would be wonderful.

  1. The only ones I have ever done are carnations.

I get a vase and put regular tap water in it. Then I put food coloring drops into the water. I would buy the carnations when they hadn't bloomed yet and placed them in the vase. When they bloomed, they bloomed in whatever color I put in the water.

Haven't tried it with any other flowers though...

  2. The safest way is to get non toxic stains used in protoplast fusion. Isolate your plant in a pot and water it as normal but add the stains to the water. You could try the same method with food coloring but remember that something that can be perfectly safe for humans can be poison for other life forms.
