I have really messed up in the past. I am 27 now and I am more responsible. At the first institution I attended I passed all but one class. It was when I moved to Texas and attended a community college there that I totally screwed myself over. I only completed one class and I either dropped or failed due to "no show". This went on for 3 semesters. Not in a row, but over a period of time. My husband has said that I should just start over and "pretend" that I never attended college before at all. What should I do? Should I just start over, only list the first school or face the music and hope the new school will accept me? Please advise.

  1. I would definitely face school again, because you can do so much more with a college education. Try going to a community college at first, and take a couple classes that are easier for you, and try to get high marks. Then apply at a better university, but divulge all the school's you went to, because you never know how they can hold it against you if you didn't.

You can even stay at a Community College for two years and make up some of the classes that you failed. Then if you apply to a four year college, you can say ya i messed up but look how well I did now..

    Good luck

  2. I did that as well when i was younger, as in the first 3 years out of high school.  At 24 i decided to become a paramedic and got back into school at the local community college, and made very good grades.  I worked in that field for a few years before i decided to go back at the age of 29 to pursue a passion (i am now 31) And this time around i have a 4.0.

Don't pretend that your old records do not exist, those things have a bad habit of turning up!  Most any community college will accept you no matter what your grades.  Take your transcripts in and make and appointment to see someone in admissions.  Most will totally understand that we make BIG mistakes when we are younger and are for sure willing to give older students a shot.  They might require you to take some placement tests in math and english due to the length of time removed from HS and the lack of satisfactory grades during your previous cexperiencepirence.  Just give it a shot! i mean i would suggest a community college for a starting point...go take some basic classes and get your GPA up!  GOod Luck and if you need anything else let me know, i am kind of an unoffical expert on this stuff

  3. You typically have 2 choices:

1 - don't divulge the schools you went to where you failed - the credits won't count anyway.  Just used the one where you passed most all of your classes.

2 - Expect to have to 'make up' for your GPA - so if you had 10 Credits of F you would need 10 Credits of A to make a C average - some school might put you on probation until you achieve that.

It's good that you are ready to do things differently - good luck to you.
