I'd like to go to Ireland, and am unsure of how I should get there. what cities can i ferry out from?

I'd like to fly into continental Europe because I have heard it is cheaper and would like to squeeze some of it into my trip. Then I would like to either take a flight ...but not really because I dread flying, or ferry into Ireland. What cities can I ferry into easily with airports or close by in France and England? Thank you!!

Holyhead in Wales, Stranraer in Scotland, Cairnryan in Scotland - all have the fastest ferries. Scotland and Wales are closer to Ireland than England.
