  1. I set aside just a few dollars from each paycheck  and deposit it in a separate savings account just for my vacation.

It adds up really quickly (and unfortunately, it gets spent even more quickly once I'm on vacation!).

$10 a week is over $500 a year - and that's just knocking off a couple of fast-food lunches every week.  If you make the commitment to bringing your lunch to work, or not buying that latte every day, you can save $1000 pretty easily. But you have to make the commitment to do it, and not spend it before your vacation.

You have to plan and save, or you will never get anywhere (figuratively and literally!)

  2. my husband and i have more taken out of our paychecks so we get a large refund.  i hear people saying all the time that if you do that, your'e giving the government an interest free loan, but we honestly wouldn't save for a vacation any other way.  if you are stretching your paycheck tight already, you can wait until you get a raise and change your withholding so they can somewhat balance each other out.
