  1. Gerbils are sweet like rats and a little less manintenance than rats and also, like rats, have to be kept in same s*x groups.

However, gerbils are not as tolerable to being held as much as rats, they would rather run around and explore.

  2. go to agsgerbils.org

  3. I think basically they're same. I heard that Rats are better for new families, but other than that, I think that they're pretty much the same.

  4. It is called research. Have you heard of the internet?

  5. My best friend has two rats, and my other best friend has two gerbils, so I could tell you a thing or two. I personally like the rats more, but it all depends on what you look for in a pet. The rats are really sweet, and fun to watch. They climb all over their cage like monkeys, and if you take them out they'll crawl all over you and its really sweet! If you don't mind the whole tail thing, then I think rats are awesome. Gerbils have tails too, but its covered in fur instead of just skin. Gerbils are super super active and when you take them out to play you have to watch them closely. They also love to chew so its good to provide them with like paper towel rolls or something. Both rats and gerbils are active, sweet, and great pets, so it all depends on your personal taste.

  6. To be completely honest, you will be disappointed if you get gerbils.  and they are nothing like rats. Some pluses for gerbils is  they tend to be active all day and all night even though they are nocturnal provided you buy 2 or more.  They love the wheel where most rats couldn't care less.  The cage, depending on the size does not need to be cleaned as often as gerbils are desert animals, drink less water, pee less frequently and have dry stools. They have a longer life span of 5+ years. Their entertainment level is a 10 though as there is never a dull moment. On the down side they are harder to train.  They don't seem to bond as closely as a rat does to it's owner.
