  1. Circle time can mean many things to a preschool or kindergarten teacher.  This is the opportunity to have the teacher read to her students or present a new concept for their learning.  I know one preschool teacher who uses this time to have students eat snacks (apples or carrot sticks, etc) and her 'lesson' is always about eating healthy foods.  The children learn "together" and this provides a closer contact with each other and the teacher.

  2. It's where a teacher takes all the children and they sit in a circle. During this time while in a circle they read a book, do a lesson, or discussion time.

  3. circle time is so much more than the previous responders stated....during circle time(which is normally held at the beginning of the day or as a starting point for new activities or the way some teachers finish the day)....a variety of activities can and do happen.....time to introduce the day or its activities.....time to read a book, or tell a story....time to introduce new topics or activities, cooking time, or tasting time, sharing time, small group activities (with only a few children) in work on specific topics some children have problems with or need further assistance with(remember reading groups).....it can be a time to introduce and explore with visitors or play games, it can also help with health, or etiquette topics (brushing teeth, learning to use a kleenex)...singing and dancing ........and can be a way to gather children at the end of a task(after clean up, preparing to go home) and most of all it is a place that can go whereever a teacher and his/her children go...both inside and outside in all kinds of weather....and usually is lots of fun and a great learning experience for all involved.....
