I'd like to redecorate a bedroom in a cape cod style home

My hubby & I would like to redecorate the bedroom our 3 & 5 year old boys share. We are expecting our first baby together in a couple months, & we wanted to do something special just for them. We live in a small Cape & the walls in both upstairs rooms (1 for the baby & 1 for the boys) are angled at about 3 feet off the floor. They currently have bunk beds, but they are seperate-not stacked, also the chimney is conveniently located in the center of thier room!...I am not sure how to go about utilizing space, without spending alot of money...

I have tried to get ideas online, but there doesn't seem to be anything for these types of walls/rooms. Any advise?

  1. magazine:Better Homes always have cape cod stlyes

  2. These type of walls are great for adding built-ins....if structurally acceptable...Built-in shelves or cabinets would definitely help you utilize the space.

I'm sure your chimney is well insulated against letting out smoke and heat in their room, but double check.  You can use strong adhesives to attach shelves or what-have-yous to it.

You should be able to place their beds against these walls....I would put the long side of the bed against the walls, not the headboard.

I had these types of walls in my bedroom at my parents' house.

I really think built ins would be your best bet for utilizing space.  it will give them places to put everything if it's a small room.

You could put a bed on either side of the room....play with different ideas.  You'll find the one that works!

    Good luck.
