Question:

I'd like to run a marathon. I've run a half-marathon in these shoes. Will they be ok for the marathon?

My shoes are not that old. I've had them less than a year. When I told the man who sold them to me (at a running store) what I was looking for he asked if I planned on doing a marathon to which I said, "no". (At the time I didn't plan on it.) Now I'm wondering if these same shoes will be enough for a marathon. Any suggestions are appreciated.

  1. What kind of shoes are they, as long as you haven't logged big miles in them (over 400 Mi.) they should be alright.  Tell me the make and model and I can give ya a better answer?

  2. It's not the age of the shoe but the mileage.  If you have run more than 500 miles in them, get a new pair.  Most of the cushioning is gone by then and the support is wearing down.  Marathon training is tough on the body and you don't want to be down with an injury because your shoes aren't working anymore. Worn out shoes can exacerbate knee, hip, ankle, and foot pain.

I have to buy new shoes every 3 months, more so when I am training for a marathon.  It can get expensive but if you switch your shoes every 400 miles, you can still wear the old pairs on days when it is rainy and nasty outside.

  3. It depends on how much you train. I ran my first marathon 2 weeks ago and I went through 2 pairs of shoes because of training. As long as your feet and legs aren't giving you problems, your shoes should be fine. But if your feet start hurting, I'd suggest possibly buying a new pair. Hope this helps.

    Good luck with your marathon!

  4. yes but only if there not to worn out and still have pleanty of padding...
