I'd like to find a way of helping my 3 year old daughter to learn Turkish, but my own knowledge of the language is very limited, can anyone suggest how I can help her and myself at the same time.

Our first language is English.

Does anyone know if there are any books/cassettes that could maybe help?

  1. Why do you not just ask your boyfriend to start talking to her in Turkish? She's still very young and able to pick up languages extremely quickly. The best way at her age would not be to learn from books or cassettes but to hear the language first hand from your boyfriend and his family. I promise you, if he speaks it to her enough she can pick it up very quickly.

For you it might be easier to find a class or a book/tape but your boyfriend could also help you out because you could practice with him.

  2. Hi,

Kids can learn easily another language. The younger the better.

The cartoons and children books might help. If it is possible, you can watch Turkish channels. Also check following links, there are some materials.

    Good luck.

  3. try advertising on yr local gumtree.com website or in local free newspapers there might be some turkish speaking people living near u or students who may help u.  u may have to pay  a bit for the tuition but u have to pay for books etc.     my daughter does arabic thru her own choice with an arabic lady living near us an hour a weekk for £10 but its one to one and she learns a lot (her dad is arabic but we are divorced and he always speaks to her english).

  4. id amor a sacarte pero me gustaría preguntar por qué usted necesita para hacer esto?

  5. how about going to ur local libraru and looking for turkish books or recored tapes on turkich speaking

    its worth a try anyway

  6. would you not teach her some language that might be useful to her in school or that she'll come accross??? turkish seems a bit far fetched...it might confuse her if she then gets another language on top of that when she starts school and then another one or even two when she goes into middle school......but whatever its your kid, you can probably order packages off the internet that will start you off and gradually build you up..i know i used to have one called "muzzy" they have it in ALOT of different languages so they might have it in turkish...but it was a video tape and you watched a cartoon that went at a slow speed so you could catch on and then it came with books and tapes aswel...i remember it was good because of the cartoon, so that might be helpful...but im sure there are loads just google in "learning turkish from a young age" or something.
