I'd like to volunteer at a local organic bee farm, do you think they need volunteers esp. presently?

  1. Look up Honey in your phone book.  Call your county agent and ask about honey producers.   Call state dept of agriculture or look up their website and ask.   You might get a response on Craigslist but these are far more likely to get the info you need.


  2. I honestly do not believe there are any organic bee farms. there are  organic farmers who raise bees to pollinate their vegetables but i do not believe there are any commercial 1000+ hive organic apiaries.

    I would put an ad up on http://wwwlocalharvest.org forums

    Also contact the organic people in your state. You local co-operative extension service should have the contact information. Extension itself is not the best place to go for organic agricultural advice (though they are MUCH better than 10 years ago, let me tell you). they are all about chemical agriculture and are just now getting into organic ag. But they will know who the organic certifying agency is in your area and those are the people to talk to.

    Most organic apiaries are quite small and produce maybe a couple thousand pounds of honey a year.

    Also know organic bees are not experiencing CCD and are, for the most part, healthy and growing
