I'd love to learn how to make clothes. What's the first step?

What about reconstruction of vintage clothes or jeans? Is it as easy as it sounds, or should I start from scratch first, and then work off of clothes that I already have?

1st step=buy a sewing machine

I started by making plain pillows, then i made simple stuff like curtains, next I'd buy simple pattern like skirts, the more patterns you do the more you learn. Good Luck

Stores like Jo-Ann's and Michaels offer beginner's sewing classes. If you'd rather do it yourself, patterns these days are pretty self explanatory.
