  1. no

  2. if you don't take a tour your time will be lost trying to find places of interest ,Italy is not structured like the states and if you don't know were you're going you'll loose a lot of time .

(i you feel you want to take a chance i suggest you do your mapping prior departure and set a route but be careful tourists are vulnerable ) GOOD LUCK and HAPPY WEDDING

  3. i was in italy this past summer and was part of an awesome tour so i may be bias but i think a tour is a good idea. even if you don't do tours the whole time i think it is helpful and you really learn a lot. also traffic is crazy over there and i would have been a nervous wreck trying to drive :) regardless it is the most beautiful place i have ever been and you will have fun no matter what! ENJOY!!!

  4. Tours are not a bad idea if you a little unsure what to do and it is your first time in Italy. I personally would suggest that you do a DIY tour. Decide on the areas you would like to explore in Italy and then hire a car and explore accordingly. If you are on hooneymoon then I would suggest that Venice and Lake Orta are two of the most romantic places on this planet. My wife and I both love them. I wrote a little article on Lake Orta which is not far from where I now live in Italy - if you are interested you can read it - it might give you an idea or two  http://www.my-italy-piedmont-marche-and-...

  5. Having been on a tour and gone elsewhere on my own, I would suggest doing 1/2 and 1/2 -- book a 2-3 day tour to take you to major cities and get the feel of things, then go on your own to explore more.  This takes into consideration that you are a) willing to learn some basic Italian before going - don't expect everyone to speak English (many people do, but you get pegged as a rude tourist right off the bat, and get charged more, etc. -- just trying some basics is appreciated, even if you're bad at it), b) carefully map out where you want to go and what you want to see in advance, and c) won't get pissed off if it doesn't go as planned.  If you can't live with a, b, and c, then just book a tour and enjoy.

  6. I've been to Italy and i didn't go on a tour. You can see more and stay longer. But you might want to buy a book on Italy for the information.

  7. Don't take a tour. You're gonna go on a bus at 7:00 AM and get herded to a restaurant that pays off under the table. The places already got your money and try to s***w you as much as they can. Not only Italy, but everywhere. You don't get a chance to be with the people or the culture on a tour. Your gonna be with a lot of old people that need help walkin, etc.

Rent a car and go wherever you want. Italy has good highways and views are beautiful. Gasoline is expensive though. October is a good time no problem finding rooms anywhere. good luck
