  2. If you're American, this will not seem far away at all. But I'm from Grenoble originally and i know the region really well. Your biggest obstacle if you're renting a car will be not to get lost. Try to find "La Mure". Pont de Ponsonnas is only 1km away. "La Mure" is most well known by the locals for its train, so if you get lost, ask for that. The roads are challenging if you're used to American roads - they are small and pretty windy... make sure you're not motion sick going up there. Otherwise, you'll find that French roads have a great signaling system, and "La Mure" will most likely be indicated very clearly on the signs.

Note that you will have to take "nationales" and "departementales" - this is a classification of the types of roads you will be on. Highways are called "autoroutes", so all their numbers start with the letter "A" (eg. A48 is the highway between lyon and grenoble), then nationales are smaller but speed is usually up to 70km/h (around 50mph), their names start with an N (eg. N85 goes from Grenoble to Vizille, then to La Mure, which is what you'll be taking), and then the smallest roads are departementales, and their numbers start with a "D".. which means smaller roads, and lower speeds. Watch out for that when you're planning your trip, and the "D" portion of it will likely take longer than the others.

    Have fun!
