  1. Hi! I am from Germany and live there. First of all: where are you flying in? Frankfurt, Munich, Berlin? Post that and we can go from there, because 9 days for backpacking is not much.

  2. What I understand you are going to Germany on July 26, and want to stay there 9 days. Which places is nice there???

It is hard to answer this question.  OK I'm trying. Nice is: Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich, Dresden ......

  3. If you are flying in to Frankfurt, make sure to visit Heidelberg. Its about 50 minutes south of Frankfurt and just a gorgeous city with a lot of charm, a lot of little pubs, bars, shops and a lot of culture as well as a beautiful castle right next to the river Neckar.

    have fun!

  4. PLACES TO VISIT

If you are flying into Nurnberg, congratulations you are going to one of my favorite cities.  That city has a nice market, a fortress/castle, the artist Albrecht Durer's house, a historic old cemetery, and beautiful old buildings.  You may want to check out city events as they sometimes show movies on the side of the old church, or have great theater productions.  Not far from Nurnberg is the Zepplin fields where n**i rallies use to be held called the Dutzendteich, there you will not only find a nice park but a museum on Terror and Violence (as done by the n**i party if you are looking for WW2 history).

Other cities worth visiting nearby are Rothenburg ob der Tauber( one of the few towns that has a majority of its medevil buildings.  www.rothenburg.de)

Bamberg, and  Passau.  If you want to go further afield try Dresden or Munich as both are beautiful interesting cities but are not as near Nurnberg as the others.

    PLACES TO STAY

www.hostelworld.com  Listing of many hostels you can search by city, book online, and view amenities.  In Nurnberg I suggest "Let 'em Sleep" Hostel for an accomodation. It was clean, cheap, and well run.
